When Life Is a Pickle!

Salty moisture exuded through my pores in profound measure. The heat hit my face as it bounced again and again off the asphalt court. The temperature was unbearable.

The once fun of this new game began to dissipate. I panted for air desperately with each attempt to return the ball. My opponent strategically placed the yellow ball. I was panting in the chase. Points piled on the other side of the court while on mine -not so much!

I was in a pickle, playing a game called Pickleball!

My mind travels from this new game to when I am in a pickle in life. Neither is fun. So, what is a gal to do?

Here are some thoughts from Pickleball for me to apply to the game of life. Maybe, they will encourage you, as well.

Chase what is in front of you.

I spent time chasing after a yellow sphere in the game of Pickleball. I ran to meet the ball in order to volley it back over the net. I ran towards the net and often moved to the backside of the court. I even danced from side to side. In the game, I pursued the ball, hoping to win. I chased what was in front of me.

Chase -

Chase is defined as "pursue, follow or trail - to go after on the track of something or someone." Webster's dictionary goes on to say that the word implies "going swiftly after to overtake."

In the game of life, I need to consider carefully and strategically what or whom I am chasing.

Hebrews 12:1-3 reads, "Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

I want to chase hard after my Lord in the good and the bad. With every step, I desire to move a little closer to Him. He leads and directs my life. He is the only way for me to win in this race of life. I must consider him, who endured everything for me. I desire to spend my time and energy chasing a lifestyle where Christ is the center. He is worth the pursuit. He is the prize. I have won this game of life when I love and obey the Lord.

Friend, what are you chasing today? I admit I lost this game of Pickleball to my worthy opponent. But I am determined to continue. I will chase and learn to aim. I will continue to grow and learn in the sport and the game of life.

My life goal is stated in the words of Paul. Philippians 3:10 reads, "My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death" (HCSB)

How about you? What are you chasing today?
