When . . .

Sometimes negativity will try to bump into your day.

Be aware, my friend!

Even as Christ-followers, negativity often seeks to rob your joy. Negative thoughts turn into negative words, and negative words turn into an ugly disposition. Have you heard the old phrase, “There is no need to poke in the vomit?” Next time, negativity wants to overtake your attitude, don’t poke in the vomit! Instead, remember God’s promises and claim these things to be true.

When discouraged, Psalm 56:9 (ESV) “This I know, that God is for me.”

When fearful, Isaiah 43:1 (ESV) “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”

When confused, James 1:5 (ESV) “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

When in a pit of despair, Psalm 40:1-3 (ESV) “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.”

When angry, Psalm 37: 8 (NIV) “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.”

When tired, Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

When suffering, 1 Peter 5:10 “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

When lacking, Philippians 4:19 (NIV) “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

When needing a friend, John 15:15 (ESV) ” . . . but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

When mourning, Psalm 30:11 (ESV) “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothes me with gladness.”

But always, “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to your among the nations. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, about the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!” Psalm 57:9-11 (ESV)

But Always, “Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place. Ascribe to the LORD, all you families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!” I Chronicles 16:23-31 (NIV)

Amen and Amen
