Back-to-School Affirmations and Prayers for Your Littles

Her lips were tight as the words escaped her mouth. "Mimi, I am soooo nervous," she shared. I prayed over her and her sister as they dressed for their first day of school. Her fears remind me of the strength needed for our everyday challenges. The power of affirmations and a praying momma/Mimi give strength in our fears. Biblical truths give confidence and courage. If you are like me and are looking for a way to make a difference in your child and/or grandchild, then speak affirmations over them. Pray deep prayers for them. Our children can thrive, not just survive even when, and often, because they face their fears. Our Lord gives the strength needed.

Here are four affirmations paired with a prayer. First, take a minute in the mornings to speak affirmations with your child or grandchild. Then pray the following prayers throughout the day. Honestly, this is something I have learned from my now-grown daughter.

Affirmation 1 to speak over your child. "Fear will not hold me back."

Prayer: Lord, 2 Timothy 1:7 reads, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." Therefore, I recognize that fear is not of God. I claim your peace as we start this school year. I pray for that (Insert name) will be calm and confident from the moment they step onto the school campus until they return home. Allow her/him not to be anxious about anything, but to have a calming assurance of your presence and peace each step of their day. I pray Philippians 4:6 over them, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made know to God.” Philippians

Affirmation 2 : I can do hard things.

Prayer: Father, I pray for (insert your child’s name) to be bold and courageous as he/she faces each challenge. I pray that my child will be bold like a lion. (Proverbs 28:1) Give the courage to stand for truth and righteousness. Give boldness to share of you. Give Godly strength to overcome any frightful situations

“Have I not commanded you? Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Affirmation 3: I am smart.

Prayer: Lord, allow (insert child’s name) to seek your wisdom and grow in knowledge given in their classroom. Give him/her the desire to apply themselves and learn well. Allow him/her to study and prepare each day what is asked of them. Give strength and direction to gain understanding. “Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.” Provers 4:6 I pray they will know truth from lies.

Affirmations 4: I am loved by God.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for loving my child even more than I love (insert child's name. Thank you for showing this love with your death on the cross. "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that who so ever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Affirmation 5: I am protected by God.

Prayer: Father, I pray that you will protect and guard (insert child’s name) when disappointments come his/her way. I also pray for protection physically. Give safety. Give a hedge of protection around their life. Place your angels before and behind. Keep them from danger. We trust you, Lord. “The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.” 2 Samuel 22:3-4

To all my praying mommas today, let’s pray and pray so more over the children God has entrusted to us.

Whether you are a mom, a grandma, or an aunt, pray on your knees in private so they can stand in public.

If you have been with me for a while, you may remember how my daughter does affirmations with her girls. This video is from when they were younger but it is the sweetest thing ever. You can tailor my affirmations and prayers to create your list.

Here is her example! Enjoy!
