Big Lessons from My Littles

It has been a BIG week with the Littles! Mom and Dad are in Chicago, so the grand-baby girls have spent most of the week at Mimi’s. Woot! Woot! We have had some summer-day simple pleasures. We have made great memories. I don’t pretend it has been easy; BUT. It. Has. Been. Good. And along the way, the littles have reminded me of some Big life-lessons. Today I want to share with you as well, three reminders for a great day!

Choose to live unhurried. Instead of rushing through life, feeling the pressure to perform, choose to slow down to see the beauty around you. Soak it in with fresh eyes and child-like curiosity. Life is better when life is not rushed. I am reminded of the old saying, “Stop and smell the roses.” We live in a big and beautiful world, don’t be so busy you miss the beauty around you.

2. Enjoy the little things. This week my littles have enjoyed puddles, bike rides, and swings . . . the little things in life, are really the big things. Learn to enjoy each simple pleasure with a child-like wonder and appreciation. What little things are big things in your life today? You and I can find simple joy in the small pleasures.

3. Every now and then, eat dessert for lunch. (So forgive me, momma but this one I taught the littles.) When I suggested we have a Frosty for lunch, my grand-baby girl exclaimed with, “I did not know we could have such a special treat for lunch!” I guess at Mimi’s and every now and then, we can eat dessert first. My husband often says, “Life is uncertain, eat dessert first.”

Whatever, you are facing today, can I whisper encouragement? Yes, life is hard; but, God. Is. Good. As you walk through life as His child, you too can see the world from the eyes of a child. You too can have a fabulous day. Live unhurried; enjoy the little things and break your routine from time to time for a sweet treat! Enjoy your life through the eyes of being HIS child.

This is a day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Psalm 118:24 (ESV)
