Practice the Pause

Today, I slow down to practice the pause.

I pause to ponder my blessings.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17 (ESV)

I pause to pray over my problems.

1 Peter 5:7 (ESV) "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." (ESV)

I pause to praise the good God I serve.

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him." Psalm 28:7 (ESV)

Otherwise, my burdens are too heavy to bear. My mind travels south, and my words respond with sass. My big dreams slowly fade, my anchor slips, my mood becomes crude - if I don't practice the pause.

I. must. practice. the. art. of. the. pause.

In the pause, my burdens are lighter, my praise is brighter.

The emergency that once seemed to be an urgency, shrinks when measured against the backdrop of my God.

Today, I practice the pause. How about you? Let's pause from the rush of the day, to be still and know God.
