Her words shared deep pain and even deeper regret. As she confided, salty tears spilled over the rim of her eyes and mine too. Sometimes one might be tempted to give up under the hurt of this world. Life can be stinking hard.
Dear soul, what do you do to keep from withering when life gets difficult?
Jeremiah 17:7-8 reads, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who's confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
The secret to standing strong is cultivating deep roots. “Spiritual growth consists most in the growth of the root, which is out of sight” states Matthew Henry.
Are you spending time with the Lord every day? Go deep with the Lord. Dig into the Scripture. Read His words. Understand His promises. Memorize His truths. Surrender your life to Him. Trust Him. Cultivate your roots.
It has been many years since I sat across the kitchen table listening to my friend. You will be glad to know she lived this verse. She began to dig deep into God's word. She cultivated her roots. My friend has overcome in ways unimaginable!
And sweet soul, you can too.
