There is no Place like Home

Have you ever just wanted to go home?

I love to travel, but on a recent trip, I was ready to get home. I missed my family. I wanted to hug my man. I longed for my bed. I ached for home.

The dictionary defines home as “a place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or a household.” However, to me, it is so much more. Home has been my primary place of ministry. Home is a refuge. Home is full of loved ones and memories. Home is a shelter to run to when the world beats you up. Home is gathering place where family members can be themselves and know they will be a hundred percent accepted. Home is a cozy kitchen with delicious smells and open pantry doors. Home is a place filled with laughter and encouragement. Home is where secrets are shared, and wisdom is given.

Indeed, there is no place like home.

Pic taken from my plane.

As much as I longed for my earthly home, I am looking forward to my heavenly home. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:20 (NIV)

I want to be with my Lord. “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.” Revelation 21: 3 (ESV)

Heaven will be truly my beautiful permanent residence. “The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass.” Revelation 21:18 (ESV)

It will be full of loved ones. “Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17 (ESV)

Heaven is my permanent shelter from this world that has beat on me. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4 (ESV)

Heaven will be a gathering place where family members will be accepted and made whole. Heaven will have feasting and celebration like no other. “For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:53 (ESV)

There is no place like my future home.

My friend, I sincerely hope I see you there. Come, with? I promise, there is plenty of room for you.

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:1-3 (ESV)
