What Do You See in Your Selfie?

Today I tried to take a selfie . . . just a simple casual pic for a project.

However, one attempt turned into two. And somehow, two jumped to thirty-eight selfies. 38 Selfies!

No judgement, please. 🙂

I know there is a problem when you take 38 selfies before you like one.

Honestly, sometimes, I play the “Lie to Myself Game.” Whether it is my crooked smile, or my fluffy belly, or my bottle-blonde moments, I can feel as if I don’t measure up. My heart knows the truth, but my negative self-talk can play with my emotions if I am not careful.

How about you? Have you ever been your own enemy?

Ironic, isn’t it? The lies we feed ourselves and the comparison games we play in our head are damaging. We will always lose. Can we agree to just stop?

To quote Theodore Roosevelt, “Comparison is the theft of all joy.”

Just in case, you looked in the mirror or took a selfie recently that sent you into an unfair emotional game; I want to remind you what the ONE who created you thinks of you.

You are loved.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NIV)

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14 (ESV)

God is aware of your every detail.

“But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” (ESV)

You have a purpose.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

God takes great delight in you.

“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

He thinks of you (believers) as his child.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1 (ESV)

Live loved friend, because you are! The next time you look at your reflection and lies enter your head, don’t believe them. Replace the lies with His truth. Remind yourself that you are loved. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. God is aware of your every detail. You have a purpose. God takes great delight in you and He is your Father.

I am confidently move forward believing it. You can too!
