When PopPop Danced on the Ferry!

Once upon a time, while riding a ferry (because everyone should ride a ferry), our 3-year-old grandson asked PopPop to dance. No music was playing—no party in sight. No one else was dancing—in fact, it was a cloudy and drizzly day. Yet, this happy little guy saw beyond the grey and wanted his PopPop to do a fun dance with him. Friends, I don't know if you have grandchildren, but when a three-year-old happy grandchild invites you to dance, You Dance! (Well, sort of if you are a Southern Baptist Preacher, Haha :)

My mind travels from the cheerful invitation of our little grandson to the words of our Lord. Scripture repeatedly encourages one to embrace joy and praise the Lord with dancing. I love a verse in Scripture that reads, "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." Proverbs 17:22 (ESV) There is a powerful connection between one's emotional state and one's physical well-being. A joyful heart encompasses a cheery disposition and often gratitude. Joy is good for one's overall well-being. It can be healing. This joy comes when one's perspective is seen through the eyes of our heavenly Father and not one's own. Joy is a deep belief in Jesus Christ and His promises. And that, my friend, is worth dancing about!

I don't know what you are going through today, but you may be going through some grey and challenging days. Perhaps, you can relate to our ferry ride and looking for the music in life's journey. However, just like our grandson invited his PopPop to dance, I'd like to invite you to embrace joy and dance through your day. Dance even if there is no music. Dance in the rain if you have to.

Choose joy and let it show to the world around you!
