As children climb on the yellow school bus and parents drop family members at college, be reminded of the power of a praying momma. Prayer is the secret to a victorious Christian life for you and your children. Though mine have graduated, I do have grand-babies starting preschool and first grade. If you are like me and are looking for ways to make a difference in your child and/or grandchild’s life, then pray for them. As you pray, use the truth of God's Word to guide your prayers. I've listed several below. Pray these Scriptures using your child's/grandchild's name in place of the nouns or pronouns of the verse.
Here are five points of prayer for your loved ones as they start the school year.
A Calm Heart: When a child or grandchild is headed to school, pray for them (and maybe even yourselves, HA) to have a calm heart. Ask the Lord to give peace of mind and His assurance for the new beginning. Psalm 29:11 (NIV) reads, “The Lord gives strength to His people, the Lord blesses His people with peace.” John 14:27 (NIV) says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Whether you have a preschooler or a young adult in college, pray for your loved ones to have a calm heart as they return to school. Pray over every detail like masks, friendships, and peace.
A Confident Heart: Pray for your child or grandchild to have the confidence needed to face each assignment, class, and challenge. Pray for courage and boldness to tackle each obstacle. Pray for confidence to try new things and make new friends. Pray for the assurance to become all that God has for them. Pray for a confident heart. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV) “For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self- disciple.”
A Compassionate Heart: Pray for your child to have a compassionate heart toward those who are hurting. Pray for your child to see the needs around him/her and to be willing to help others. Pray for God’s compassion to shine in them and through them. Pray that your children will give freely to others just like Christ has given to them. Colossians 3:12 (NIV) “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
Pray for a Courageous Heart: Pray for your child to have a bold and courageous as he/she faces each challenge. I pray my child will be fierce as a lion. "The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion" Proverbs 28:1 (ESV). Pray that he/she will have the courage to stand for truth and righteousness. Pray for Godly courage that they will overcome any frightful situations.
A Christ-Centered Heart: Pray for your child or grandchild to have a heart that stays focused on Him regardless of their situation. Pray he/she can have a Christ-Centered heart when facing an ungodly culture. Pray for him/her to be a man or a woman after God’s own heart. Matthew 6:33 (NIV) reads, “But seek you first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”
As we let them go sweet, friends, rest in the power of prayer. “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16 (NIV) Whether you are a mom, a grandma, or an aunt, pray in private so they can stand in public because God's got this. :)
