The Shoes by My Vacay Door

Recently at a family weekend away, I looked toward the front door and had to smile.
Shoes.
So. Many. Shoes.
Little blue Crocs. Pink shoes. Tennis shoes. Sandals. Flip-flops.
At first glance, it was just a line of shoes.
But then I thought - these shoes tell stories.
Those little Crocs have probably run through sprinklers, jumped in puddles, and gone places their Mimi doesn't even know about.
Those tennis shoes have raced across playgrounds, chased balls, climbed steps, and logged more miles than anyone bothered to count.
Those sandals have walked through summer days, family adventures, ordinary errands, and moments that will someday become memories.
Every pair has been somewhere. And every person who stepped out of those shoes has a story, too. Shoes may represent where we've been, but our steps reveal the story God is writing.
Shoes may represent where we've been, but our steps reveal the story God is writing.
My thoughts turn to our walk with God. Scripture says: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”— Psalm 37:23 NKJV
I love that the Scripture records the word steps.
Not leaps.
Not miles.
Not the entire journey mapped out before we begin.
But Steps.
Because isn’t that how most of life with God works? I want the map.
God often gives me the next step. I want to know where the road is leading.
But God says, “Trust Me.” Some of our steps take us exactly where we hoped to go. Others lead through places we never would have chosen. There are joyful steps and painful ones. Steps of obedience. Steps taken with trembling knees. Steps that feel like they’re going backward. And steps we don’t understand until years later when we look over our shoulder and realize— God was directing us all along.
Maybe that’s what struck me most as I look at the shoes by my vacay door.
I don’t know everywhere those little feet will walk. I don’t know what roads God will ask them to travel or where their stories will take them. But I know the One who will guide every step. That’s my prayer for myself today, too. How about you?
Lord, order my steps. When I know where I’m going—and when I don’t. When the road is easy—and when it’s hard. When I’m wearing high heels, tennis shoes, flip-flops, or walking barefoot through the house. Help me trust You with the next step. Because shoes may tell the story of where we’ve been…
but You, Lord are already present wherever our feet will go next.
At His Feet, Becky
P.S. Take a look at the shoes by your door today. Whose story do they represent? Maybe before you move them, stop and pray for the feet that fill them. ❤️

This is terrific! I hope it forever changes the way I look at the shoes in front of the kitchen counter next to the garage door entrance. Sometimes I need to push them aside because they’re right where I need to stand, but the people in my life that wear those shoes are always welcome and wanted!! Seeing a pair of shoes near the door is a lovely reminder of my many blessings!
