Christmas Cheer

Big smiles and Christmas giggles greeted me yesterday as I walked through my daughter’s front door. My three-year-old grand-baby girl quickly pointed out her favorite ballerina ornament hanging on the freshly decorated tree. She talked of Christmas gifts, upcoming family celebrations and homemade decorations as the anticipation of the season sparkled in her eyes. But my favorite part of the day was when she told me the Christmas story. She shared of angels coming to shepherds and telling them not to be afraid. “Do not fear, Be still, God is coming here,” were her exact words. She did include Adam and Eve being apart of the manger scene along with Mary and Joseph; however, for a three-year-old, she understood the main message of the season. 🙂

Luke 2:9-12 reads “An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (NIV)

While Christmas means so many things to so many of us, as Christians, my three-year-old granddaughter perfectly in a childlike simplicity voiced why Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. As you celebrate with friends and decorate and gather, let me remind you of this simple truth; “Do not fear. Be still. God has come and is coming again!”

Merry Christmas!
