It rolled in unexpectedly, like a blanket of heaviness. It hung on the hills before me and dared to swallow every distant object. Slowly and successfully erasing the road before me, it laid as a thick wall, now threatening to block my way. The white stood weighty before me, circling the corners as well. The blur caused me to question my way along the journey.
Sometimes, I wonder which direction to take when the road is hard to see. Just like fog settling on an asphalt highway can dampen my view, the path of my spiritual journey can sometimes be hard to follow.
How about you? Does the fog of life's journey cause you to lose your way? So, what is a gal to do when she can hardly see the next step? Here are a couple of truths that are helping me.
When the journey is difficult and unclear, I lean harder into my faith. Faith is what carries me forward when my circumstance tells me to stop. Faith is the beacon shouting guidance when the fog settles around me. Faith is the 'map quest' for my life journey when the vision is unclear. Often, our faith requires believing in what we know God can do without knowing how He will do it. Faith requires us to navigate the unknown and trust Him with the outcomes. Corrie Ten Boom states, "Faith is like a radar that sees through the fog."
"Faith is like a radar that sees through the fog."
So, lean deeper into your faith when the journey is foggy and you have lost your way. Trust Him when you can't see the road to your God-given destination. God tells us to live by faith, not sight. "Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1 (NIV): We do this as Christ's followers. We live by faith. We know the One who created the roads of our future. This makes the foggy roads reliable. The truth is that the road is before us even when we can't see it. Keep moving forward and trust the Savior. Let your faith see through the fog.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
