A God Hug

I skipped breakfast and was still running late for the appointment.

I had forgotten to finish a commitment as text messages dinged with each entry.

Emails were piling up as fast as my dirty clothes.

Buying groceries would have to wait for another day.

Commitments and speaking obligations begged my attention.

Do you ever feel overcommitted and overwhelmed?

Overwhelmed.

Overwhelmed is defined as “to bury or drown under a huge mass” (Oxford American Dictionary)

So how does a gal overcome when she feels overwhelmed?

I am tempted to numb the constant to-do list by eating dark chocolate or drowning out the voices in my head with a favorite show. Sometimes I am tempted to run to dark chocolate while watching a show!

However, the truth is neither gives the peace I crave. The show only lasts for a while, and the chocolate stays on the hips for months. Both are Bummers.

Honestly, I am learning that Christ is the one to give me the lasting contentment and strength I need. He can cure an overwhelmed heart. He freely wants me to have lasting peace. I find encouragement and strength when I soak in His word.

To quote Jennifer Rothchild, “When I run to God’s Word, even just one verse, I find that God is my “refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1, NIV).

Ladies, if you are having a crazy overwhelming day, He invites us to come to Him. “Come to Me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

“From the end of the earth, I will cry out to you when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2 (NLT)

When overwhelmed, I invite you to rest assured because He can work out all things for our good. He has loving intentions toward your life. Run towards Him even if you only have a minute to do so. My son says, “Let God hug your heart.” Let’s learn to OVERcome instead of being overwhelmed!

Blessing, Friends, for a great day!
